There was a rule that Medieval architecture always followed. On one hand, the symmetrical order of big cathedrals that represented the perfection of heaven. And on the other hand the disorder and chaos that was said to belong to the kingdom of the devil. For this reason a bridge with such an unusual shape, far from being
symmetrical, has always been subject of strange hearsay. Whoever crossed it would be overcome with the doubt that its architecture was too daring to be the work of a man. So the Bridge of Maddalena of Borgo a Mozzano became known as the Devil’s Bridge.
